This past weekend we were able to attend StyleBOOM. A collaboration of The Style Dolls and Ris of HoneyBOOM. HoneyBOOM is a retail boutique specializing in vintage sportswear, streetwear, jewelry, accessories, art, & custom pieces. The Style Dolls are proud FASH DET members as well as stylists Sicarra & Daisy who have a virtual vintage boutique. They put together a wonderful fashion show using items from both of their shops. Women joining together for fashion, you know FASH DET loves that.

It was held at the wonderful Detroit Fashion Collective. It was an opportunity to shop vintage pieces, enjoy cocktails, appetizers and network.

I also got a chance to chat with the fashion show's hairstylist Domonique Rochelle and makeup artist Darrell Jones. Cool people.

Weekend Casual Shoes

Everyone loves the weekend. Some of us spend the weekend having brunch, shopping, hanging with family /friends or walking the dog. When you spend the weekdays in heels, you want to be comfortable on the weekend.

Walk 5 Casting Call

WALK 5 Casting Call

The Midwest’s largest fashion event, the WALK Fashion Show is back for spring 2012. This season Ford Model Bianca Golden from America's Next Top Model Cycles 9 & 17 hosts the WALK Show model casting expecting over 500 hopefuls ready to rip the runway. Bianca Golden, best known for ANTM and multiple appearances on the Tyra Banks show, hopes to inspire local Detroit women in the fashion industry. Bianca is very excited to share her knowledge and experience with Detroit’s fashionistas from her very successful modeling career since ANTM. Now signed with Ford Models in Chicago, Major Model Management in New York, Fusion Model Management in South Africa, and Click Models in Boston. Bianca also appeared on the finale of Project Runway Season 5 additionally to gracing the pages of Essence Magazine, Cosmopolitan, The Source, and various publications.

The WALK fashion show is not Ms. Golden’s first involvement in runway shows. She has also taken part in multiple fashion weeks and numerous BET’s Rip The Runway shows.

The casting will be held on Saturday February 4 from 1pm-5pm at the 4731 Gallery located at 4731 Grand River in Detroit, MI. Male and Female Models between the ages of 16-35 are welcomed of all sizes and ethnicities Models should bring a head shot photo or comp card and wear stiletto heels.

The WALK Show is in its’ 5th edition averaging over 500 women to each casting call and over 2,000 fashion forward show attendees from the metro Detroit area and around the country each year. The fashion extravaganza previously held at lavish venues such as the historic Charles H. Wright Museum and the Detroit Rooster Tail Each year WALK donates a portion of its proceeds to various charities.This season’s show is produced by native Detroiters Daishawn Franklin, Crystal Bailey, and award winning event producer KeKe Dillard. Mr. Franklin was just recently seen in a Detroit Free Press feature celebrating 9 years of successfully producing celebrity events and concerts around metro Detroit area.

WALK strives to provide a platform for locally based designers, store owners and the Detroit fashion community. The spring WALK runway fashion show will be showcased this May at the Detroit Opera House.

On Saturday, January 28th FASH DET hosted our very first Thrift/Vintage Store Crawl! The day was filled with shopping, store hoping and fun! We met at Caribou Coffee in Royal Oak, and before heading out we introduced ourselves and in true fashion blogger form we took tons of pictures!

The Stores We Shopped:

Salvation Army, Royal Oak, Shaunah found a pair of glitter TOMS in mint condition! The store also had mark downs of up to 75% off! Lost and Found, we really loved Lost & Found's collection, we all seemed to flock to the dresses! Chocolate Shop Vintage, almost everything in the store was $5 dollars, we nearly lost our minds in that store! Great items for low prices! Paris. Paris had an awesome sale on accessories we all racked up with 60% off! The staff was very helpful and excited to have us!

This event allowed a place and opportunity for our members and friends to meet, greet and shop in one place! We definitely Thrifted until we Dropped! Stay tuned for our individual posts of the goodies we found! We all found some great pieces!

We definitely have to send a huge thank you to the stores! You all welcomed us with smiles and pleasant service, you all even showed genuine interest in our network. We are definitely looking forward to visiting again! Thanks also to Caribou Coffee the staff was very helpful!

The event was wonderful. It was held at the Hamilton Room in Birmingham, MI. When we arrived we were greeted by the paparazzi Davide the Photographer and NicAnthony Photography to take pics. Then we had wonderful appetizers and yummy cupcakes. The promo models were present making sure you were able to subscribe to the magazine. Jessica was greeting everyone with smiles and hugs. We were very excited because when we met Jessica it was like we knew her forever. We are so excited for her magazine and success.

We are also glad to announce that we will be featured in the February issue discussing FASH and Fashion!

Spring 2012 Color Trends

After the Holidays are over I am so done with winter and I immediately start looking forward to Spring. Even though here in Michigan we still have 2-3 more months of cold weather I find myself daydreaming and being inspired by warmer colors & climates. Colors inspire my jewelry designs first and everything else comes secondary. But knowing what colors are hot in the fashion world is important and I use Pantone to keep me informed. They are color experts and its tools are used by artists and designers all over the world. Every year they predict the color of the year and 2012's color of the year is Tangerine. I hope you like it cause you are going to see this color everywhere! Another cool thing done by Pantone is the Spring 2012 Fashion Color Report which gives the hot colors of the season and insight into certain designer collections and their favorite color of the season.

The DFC was founded by Adriana Pavon who saw the need for a unique and independent creative fashion community within the city of Detroit. The DFC focuses on accelerating independently owned fashion businesses and a mission to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of design students. The DFC services include: fashion design, hair and makeup, photography, wardrobe and image consulting, manufacturing and consulting and workshops and seminars. source (paraphrased)

FASH DET co-founders Inez and Erika were invited to attend the private launch party of the DFC, which took place at the studio space that will house the DFC. The launch was filled with networking, great food catered by Chef Chris Lawshea and drinks. Mixing and mingling was the order of the night; meeting and chatting with Adriana, the mastermind behind the DFC, and other movers and shakers in the city, as well as exploring the space were the highlights of the evening. It was truly an amazing launch!

Three Great Events this Weekend

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Well, here are three great events that are happening in Detroit this weekend starting tomorrow. They all look to be fun times!

Reignite Retail Farbman Group collaborates with local Detroitretailers, designers and artists to showcase and sell their products. Enjoy live music and entertainment as youbrowse and shop local brands. The event is free to the public.

Possible Outing: Painting with a Twist + Survey

Fun, Fun Fun!
Yesterday Erika and Inez attended a ladies night out event at "Painting with a Twist". This was Erika's 5th class and Inez's first! Painting with a Twist is a fun painting class where you paint along with a artist to create an amazing piece of art all while enjoying your favorite wine. Yep, you can bring along a bottle of wine and enjoy a night of fun, art and a sure great time!

We'd love to go Painting with a Twist with you!

We think this would be a great event for the members of f.a.s.h. DET, don't you agree? There are a ton of pretty pieces of art to choose from and we would certainly choose one that we all would love!

We need a minimum of 10 people to participate to have a private party. We created a brief survey (below), we'd like to ask that you fill it out (whether you plan to attend or not) so that we know your interest. We'd love it if you joined us for our next {possible} outing.

On Sunday November 13th, The Ladies of f.a.s.h. DET supported local author Monica Marie Jones and local entrepreneur Monike Welch by attending Books and Berries. Published author Monica M. Jones released her wonderful book Monday Morning Motivation.

The event was wonderful! We enjoyed music, networking, and connecting with two wonderful women who are best friends and are doing big things in the city of Detroit and beyond. It was a great weekend for Monike who was celebrating her Fox 2 half off deal. Monica's book debut was a huge success she sold out of Monday Morning Motivation...Inez purchased the last copy. Blog Tip Tuesday: Sharing

It's that time again! Time for Blog Tip Tuesday!

Make sharing easy. Are you sharing your blogs content? Having share buttons on your blog makes your blog content easy to share. With just one click your readers will be able to email, print, tweet even link to your content on facebook and those are just a few ways of sharing. Most interfaces already have mechanisms in place to do so. Addthis is also a great application to use when sharing your content.

Here are other ways we suggest sharing your blogs content:

Network your blog on your FB page. There are quite a few apps that willautomatically sync with your blogs rss feed. This sync will automatically shareyour new posts.

Tweet about it. When you create a new post, be sureto tweet about it and make sure your tweets are re-tweetable so that yourfollowers can share them as well.

Encourage yourreaders to share your content. Add share buttons to each post.

Fall Into f.a.s.h. DET: We Meet

Our first event "Fall Into f.a.s.h. DET" went well, we had a chance to meet other beautiful ladies within the Detroit area all with something in common...fashion. Centaur was the meeting the place, a great bar with great food and drinks! We ate, drank and mingled with one another it was truly a night of fun!

Blog Tip Tuesday: Commenting

It's that time again! Time for Blog Tip Tuesday!

Commenting. I remember when I first started my blog, I would post andpost and pray that someone out there would find interest and comment on myposts. Do you remember how excited you were when you received your firstcomment? I do! Long before I knew how to check my stats that comment meant someone was reading my blog! Commenting is very, very importantwhen it comes to blogging and building that sense of community. Here are thingswe find helpful when it comes to commenting.

1. Disable captcha.Now I know there are some of you reading this that have captcha enabled. Didyou know most blogging interfaces have automatic spam detection, so having wordverification enabled is honestly just a waste of time. We aren’t trying torough any feathers here either! After all, some of us wear glasses. Lol. I hateto type out my comment and then can’t figure out the captcha. Sometimes I getso frustrated I just move on to the next, sorry. You don’t want that. Make commenting easy.

2. Comment. Commentingon others blogs is essential to gaining an audience for your blog. You have toremember there are hundreds if not thousands of blogs out there. How willothers know your blog exist if you never comment and make your presence known?It only takes a second to leave a lasting impression, remember to:

Nevercut and paste generic messages like “nice, blog, follow each other?
Actuallytake time to read the post and comment on something the writer mentioned or apiece that you like
Besure to link back to your blog

3. Interact. If your aim is to be as interactiveas possible, use commenting applications like Disqus. Disqus allows you tocomment individually to each comment and is a great wait to connect with youaudience. If you’re reader knows you respond to their comments they’re moreinclined to come back to read them.

4. Returnthe favor. Don’tleave your commenter’s hanging; be sure to return the blog love!

When we created this group we wanted it to maintain a high level of support for every member. So, we decided it would only be fitting to share tips that we've found useful while blogging. We hope that if you have just started out blogging, been blogging for some time, want to blog professionally or just blog for fun, that you will find this information helpful. These tips are all things that we have found useful in growing our readership and growing our blog communities.

Participation. Participation in the blogging community is key to building your blog and allowing others to come across it. Challenges and linkups come in many forms from outfit challenges like Bloggers Do it Better and Everybody Everywear to link ups like CERTIFIED Chic, Thrifters Anonymous or Fashion Beauty Friend Friday linking up definitely creates a fun and interactive experience. We've found that participating in linkups has allowed us to connect with other bloggers and also come across a few that we probably would not have found on our own. Getting involved with link ups and challenges are great ways to get your blog noticed and they are so much fun! We definitely encourage you to get involved or get creative and start your own.

We caught up with the creators of f.a.s.h. DET, Inez of Style Chic 360 and Erika of Love of Style by Erika, here's what they had to say on blogging, inspiration and f.a.s.h. DET.

When was your blog established?
Erika: June 2011
Inez: March 2011

Why do you blog?

Erika: My world was revolving around fashion. I’ve noticed that I was spending a lot of time reading other blogs and my fashion magazine collection grew a great deal. I decided to start a blog on my love of style.

Erika of Love of Style By Erika

Inez: I stalked fashion blogs religiously for months before starting my own blog. After a breakup, I needed something to lift my spirits, so I started my blog. Through my blog, I have been able to show the world my love of fashion, and I must say I have truly enjoyed my blogging experience thus far! My blog has truly become my place of peace and positivity.

Who/what inspires your style?
Erika: I can’t say that one singular thing inspires me. Fashion magazines, celebrities other bloggers, even a woman on the street. I might see an outfit on a character on television and decide to copy her outfit.

Inez: I draw inspiration from many things, anything from interior design, color and other fashion bloggers.

You like celebrity style, who are some of you favorites?

Erika: I love Reese Witherspoon and Halle Berry’s classic style and red carpet looks and the Kardashian’s street style and the way they wear trends. They have become my favorites. Beyoncé’s edge is great too.

Inez: Currently, I'm really digging Solange's style, she has really come into her own and has been giving it to us!

What is the vision for f.a.s.h. DET?
We see f.a.s.h. DET uniting Detroit area fashion bloggers. We are currently seeking members to join the group and strengthen the awareness of the group within the city. Stay tuned for collaborations and upcoming events we have in store. This group will be a warm and inviting central place for fashion /style bloggers to meet, network and collaborate! We are very excited for the launch of f.a.s.h. DET and look forward to the future of the group! Please don't hesitate to email us if you have any suggestions or feedback!

f.a.s.h. DET is the brainchild of Erika and Inez, personal style bloggers who met in July 2011. After learning of each others blogs and noticing their similarities: Detroit and fashion, f.a.s.h. DET was brainstormed and is now fully developed and ready to flourish.
